恋の浮島
Japan Society Film - Instagram: "Taking its name from the best known chapter of Luiz de Camoes' epic poem "Os Lusiadas"— a chapter "devoted to Vasco de Gama, who led by Venus, discovers the route to the Orient and arrives at the Island of Loves, where the goddess shows him the secrets of the past and the future, the structure of the universe, of wisdom and love"—Paulo Rocha's THE ISLAND OF LOVES (1982) is a retelling of the life, works, loves and death of Portuguese writer and naval officer Wenceslau de Moraes who served as a Portuguese consul to Japan in the early twentieth century. Produced by Etsuko Takano—manager of the legendary Iwanami Hall and former classmate of Rocha—with stylized and literary Japanese dialogue written by documentarian Sumiko Haneda, Rocha's ambitious, Luso-Japanese co-production—14 years in the making—screens next Friday 3/13 in a new 4K restoration as a tribute to Haneda and Rocha. Presented by The Theater of the Matters. #paulorocha #ilhadosamores #sumik
