「1940年頃から、二人と一緒に脚本を書き始めました。それまでは一人で書いていて、特に問題はありませんでした。しかし、一人で書くと、他人に対する解釈が一方的になる危険があります。二人と一緒にその人物について書けば、少なくとも三つの異なる視点が得られ、意見が対立する点について議論することができます。また、監督には、主人公やプロットを自分が最も演出しやすいパターンに押し進める傾向があります。二人と一緒に書くことで、この危険も避けられます。」
